FRSC offers commercial drivers free health checks

Iba Unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Lagos State, on Thursday offered health checks and medical advice to commercial bus drivers in the area.
FRSC Commander of the unit, Mr. Sunday Aladenika, said the programme was to mark the end of the ‘ember’ months, a period which witnessed high intensity of road activities.
According to him, there is need for attitudinal change in motorists who believed that roads embodied danger between September and December.
Aladenika said, “The only thing dangerous in the ‘ember’ months is the motorists who ply the roads. It is true that there are increased movements of goods and passengers during this period, but there will not be any problem if motorists obey rules and regulations of the highway.
“There is high rate of road traffic crashes in our history and statistics during the ember months because motorists are not safety-conscious.”
The commander called on commercial bus drivers to help the corps keep roads safe.
Eight road crashes were recorded within the jurisdiction of the unit during the ‘ember’ months. In these, three fatalities were recorded while 33 sustained injuries.
Inter-state Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Iba Unit, Mr. Kunle Fasakin, called on members of his union to join hands with the corps to save lives.
