How unknown gunmen killed 2 in Adamawa



IT has been revealed that last Friday’s dawn attack on Maiha town in Maiha Local Government Area of Adamawa State by unknown gunmen was primarily to recover arms and ammunition for their nefariousactivities.
A very reliable source in Maiha told Sunday Tribune that the unknown gunmen, who divided themselves into groups, first attacked the police station to arm themselves for their operation.
However, it was also disclosed that they met a stiff resistance from the policemen on duty who repelled their attack.
During the attack which took place at the presidential lodge in the town, a sporadic exchange of gunshots was said to have ensued, living one policeman and a civilian dead.
The chairman of Maiha Local Government, Ustaz Muhammed Jubrilla, told newsmen on phone that the gunmen, who attacked the town in the early hours of Friday, came on motorcycles and on foot.
According to him, the attack started around 1.00a.m. as the gunmen had divided themselves into groups and attacked the prison, presidential lodge, area court, district head’s office, local government area education office, as well as the Customs’ command area office.
Ustaz, who confirmed the death of a policeman and a civilian, disclosed that about 35 inmates of the Maiha prison were also set free.
Some of the offices and buildings attacked were also said to have been set ablaze by the rampaging gunmen.
When contacted, the Adamawa State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Ibrahim Muhammed, confirmed the attack and the death of the victims.
