Bomb scare: FG tightens security at MMA •As hundreds of passengers trek to catch flights

FOLLOWING the security report obtained that the dreaded religious sect, Boko Haram has targeted the Murtala Muhammed Airport for attack during the yuletide, security operatives on Thursday, further beefed up security around the airport, a situation which led to serious traffic around the airport.
The security put up  by the operatives  to check anybody or vehicles coming into the airport left hundreds of  people who were travelling out of the state stranded, while many missed their flights.
Various security outfits like the Nigerian Police, anti-terrorism squad and the military barricaded two lanes out of the three lanes leading to the airport with used tyres.
Vehicles entering the airport were randomly screened by the stern-looking security personnel, while  passengers had to trek in order not to miss their scheduled flights.
Some of the passengers even used wheel barrows to ferry their luggages, while others simply put them on their heads to avoid missing their flights.
The traffic on the Lagos-Abeokuta road started from the Cement Bus Stop, while the heavy vehicular traffic began from the Oba Akran axis at Ikeja and motorists were held up in the traffic for over two hours for a journey of five minutes.
However, unlike in the past when the security officers carried out their checks on vehicles entering the airport at the Murtala Mohammed Airport Two (MMA2), the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) of MMA , security operatives were stationed very close to the local airport police station, which reduced vehicular traffic.
Besides the security operatives on the road, it was also observed that various security personnel  including the State Security Services (SSS) and the in-house aviation security of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), among others were stationed in strategic places within the airport.
