Officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil
Defence Corps in Ondo State on Thursday said they impounded truck laden with
33,000 litres of adulterated diesel.
The command also seized two cars carrying about
4,000 litres of adulterated diesel and arrested three suspects, Bashiru Koko,
Mohammed Danliti, and Useni Mohammed, during a routine patrol in the state.
The Public Relations Officer of the agency in the
state, Mr. Kayode Balogun, who said this in a statement, noted that the
suspects were arrested with the vehicles on the Ore-Sagamu Expressway.
Balogun gave the number plates of the truck as XB
6038 BGD and the two cars, a Volvo with number plate FF 129 AAA and a Toyota
Carina with number plate BE 399 KSF.
He said, “The NSCDC and other security agencies
have for some time now been having a running battle against illegal bunkerers,
who operate in the Niger Delta creeks and use the Ondo coastal area as routes
through which they convey their illegal products to markets.”
The NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr. Waheed
Popoola, the statement added, expressed dismay at the activities of saboteurs,
who he said disrupted oil operations and stole crude in the area.
He urged residents of the area to assist the
agency in curbing the activities of the criminal elements.
Popoola advised the people not to relent in
giving useful information to security agencies so that the nation’s economy can
be protected.
