Council Boss’ Wife, Female Councillor Trade Blows

In a move that threw decency to the wind, a serving female supervisory councillor in Matazu local government area of Katsina State and the wife of the council’s transition committee chairman engaged each other in fisticuff at the office of the council area’s director of administration.
It was observed that the scuffle was as a result of sharing formula for the state government’s interest free loan to women and youth which the supervisory councillor allegedly complained of being side-lined in the processes that led to selection of targeted beneficiaries.
Eyewitness said trouble started when the Director of Administration was holding closed door meeting with the said female councillor and some staffs to allegedly address areas of grievances “when chairman’s wife entered the meeting but one thing led to another and they started fighting right in our present.”
Our source said “the chairman’s wife started it all as she slapped the councillor after making some uncomplimentary comments before the councillor retaliated leading to exchange of blows as a result of which the councillor sustained some bruises.”
Attempt to speak to the chairman’s wife proved fruitless but the supervisory councillor told our correspondent that “I couldn’t have fold my arms to see her slap me just like that without retaliating and I have no regrets doing what I did because she started it all.”
It was gathered that the scuffle almost degenerated into a factional crisis as both perceived supporters of the transition management committee’s wife and the council fell short of engaging each other in conflict.
“The timely intervention of the director of administration and supply saved what could have passed for a crisis of serious magnitude as supporters of both the councillor and the chairman’s wife almost engage each other” a source who prefers anonymity said.
Some residents of Matazu who spoke to our correspondent on the matter described it as disheartening even as they frowned at what they insisted was an unassuming power of the transition management committee chairman’s wife.
LEADERSHIP investigation revealed that the scheme was introduced to facilitate the growth of small-scale businesses.
No fewer than 600 youths have received N6 million interest-free loans in a micro-credit scheme initiated by the Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Each of the beneficiaries who were selected from the 10 wards in the area got N10, 000 in the scheme.
About 30 motorised-tricycles (KEKE-NAPEP) have so far been distributed to youths in the state to boost rural transportation in the area.
He enjoined the people to live in peace and engage in good businesses capable of contributing to the development of the area and the nation at large.
The Matazu Council administration also distributed relief materials to flood victims and reiterated the council’s commitment towards implementing policies aimed at uplifting the people.
