Man shot dead by landlord in Ibadan

HELL was let loose late Sunday evening at Ire-Akari Street of Olomi area of Ibadan when a 32-year old man, Tosin Adejumo, was shot dead by a landlord in the area.

Tosin was allegedly shot around 9.00 pm by Mr Ogunlade, when he was returning on his motorcycle from where he had gone to drop one of his customers, who had visited him for a contract.

He was said to have been stopped by the landlords who also acted as vigilante groups in the area and accused of being an armed robber.

All explanations given by the deceased fell on the deaf ears of Ogunlade, who initially threatened to kill Tosin, and eventually shot him in the chest.

According to an eye witness, Tosin was beaten almost to a state of coma before Ogunlade fired the gun shot that snuffed life out of him.

According to a close friend of the deceased, who did not want his name in print, "His hand was broken before he was killed. I was thinking he was not dead before I confirmed that he was dead", the witness said.

Angered by the callous act, youths in the area mobilized immediately and destroyed the property in the house of Ogunlade before setting it ablaze.

The house of another landlord, Mr Omoniyi, was also not spared, just as the angry youths vandalized the Volvo car of Ogunlade marked AT 714 NRA, which they said he had wanted to use to take away the body of Tosin around 2.00 a.m.

An eye witness, Mr Timilehin Popoola, who was at the scene of the incident said: “Even if they feel he was an armed robber, do they have any right to kill him. I was there and we were pleading with them to release him and let him go, but Ogunlade in his usual character did not agree with our plea. We later discovered that the N55,000 his customer brought as part- payment for the job was removed”.

Another witness, Mrs Kehinde Tewogbade, also confirmed the incident saying, “I told him that Tosin Adejumo was not an armed robber but has his aluminium job. He is a friend to my son, I explained to them but they did not agree”.

Ogunlade has been at large, and his whereabouts not known yet.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Ayodele Lanade (DSP) confirmed the incident, saying that the case was already being investigated.
