Uncontrolled checkpoints in Kano may lead to revolt — Ex-gov

FORMER governor of Kano State, Senator Kabiru Gaya, on Tuesday, cautioned the Federal Government over the deployment of armed personnel to maintain security in the state.
Gaya warned that the people of Kano State were getting restless over the development, which, according to him, might lead to mass revolt by the people.
“There are too many security checkpoints in Kano State and hardly could one drive for more than a kilometre before you are ordered out of your vehicle and thoroughly checked and this takes a lot of the time of the people. If the development is not quickly reviewed, it will soon lead to mass revolt by the restless people of Kano State.”
Senator Gaya, who represents Kano South Senatorial district, said people were becoming helpless because of what he described as defective leadership.
The lawmaker spoke at the Grand Ibro Hotel, Abuja, at the end of the year get-together organised for journalists, which was facilitated by his Special Adviser (Communications and Strategy), Prince Idris Afegbua.
He frowned on a situation whereby Assistant Directors in the Federal Civil Service even refused to obey the summons of the  National Assembly members and warned that the country was gradually moving towards a revolution as predicted by former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
The former governor pleaded with the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and the Kano State governor to reduce the security checkpoints.
