Boko Haram: Rep backs deployment of U.S. troops
WORRIED by the insecurity in the country, a member of House of Representatives has thrown his weight behind moves by the Federal Government to receive assistance of the United States (U.S.) by bringing in her troops.
The lawmaker, who lamented how his constituency has become one of the worst hit by terrorists in the recent times, said the move is long overdue in view of the spate of bombings and other terror acts which have claimed several lives.
Bitrus Kaze representing Jos South/East Federal Constituency of Plateau State also allayed widespread fears that such an invitation of American soldiers may turn Nigeria into a battle ground of sort like Afghanistan if not well handled.
He welcomed the initiative on the ground that experiences of U.S., UK and Israel in combating terror in the homelands are worthy of being shared by all Nigerian security forces.
He said: "We may not like the U.S. but we cannot march their experiences in combating terrorism. While they have many scars of terrorism, at least, they equally have tangible results to show for it.
"I have always advocated that the Israel, U.S. and UK among others have experienced and tackled more terrorists attacks far much more than we have, surely they have an experience from which we can draw useful lessons. To me, it is a welcomed development," he said.
However, it was learnt yesterday that talks between the two countries have reached advanced stage just as the U.S. is willing to assist Nigeria where it has a lot of interests to wriggle out of her current impasse.
