There are surreptitious plans to blow up pipelines belonging to Chevron Nigeria Ltd in Egbema-Gbamaturu community of Delta State, a group has alleged.
The allegation was made at the weekend by chairman of the Coalition for Defence of Human Rights in Delta State, Mr Rufus Olarewaju, during a press briefing in Warri, Delta State.
A leadership tussle between two warring factions was said to be tearing the executive committee of the community apart, already with allegations of kidnapping as well as attempted murder.
It is alleged that there is the Anthony Lawuru-led newly elected executive and the Darlington Lelekumo defunct executive, both of which are not ready to step down for each other, while one of the factions was said to be perfecting plans to blow up Chevron pipeline which passes through Egbema-Gbamaturu axis.
This portends, if successful, a danger for the economy of the country as well as peace-loving ordinary people of the community.
Appealing to the state government and security agents, Barrister Olarewaju, warned that such brewing communal feud and sabotage should be nipped in the bud before it escalate.
