ICPC summons Ogun Speaker, clerk, others



The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) has summoned the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Suraj Adekunbi over alleged cars scam. The speaker and other principal officers of the Assembly were invited over an alleged cars contract inflation of 28 Toyota Avensis .
It was reliably gathered yesterday that Adekunbi and other invited members of the House had received their letters of invitation from the ICPC and would be in Abuja today for interrogation and defence of the allegations raised in the petition. Adekunbi and others were summoned to appear before the anti-graft agency tomorrow over the cars bought for the 26 members of the Assembly and two principal officers at the rate of N6 million each.
Others invited were the Clerk of the House, Mr. Muyiwa Adenopo, the deputy clerk and some other principal officers of the Assembly. The invitation, according to Daily Sun’s investigations was based on a petition written by a concerned citizen of the state against the leadership of the House.
According to the petition, the speaker was alleged to have had unfair advantage as well as inflated the cars bought for the lawmakers and others. The Resident Media Consultant of the ICPC, Mr. Folu Olamiti, confirmed the incident to journalists in Abeokuta yesterday, saying the invitation was necessary to assist the agency in its investigations.
