Man Charged with Aggravated Sexual Abuse of Children

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Mitchell, South Dakota man has been indicted by a federal grand jury.
Terace Castaway, age 30, was indicted by a federal grand jury on November 15, 2012, for aggravated sexual abuse of children, sexual abuse, sexual abuse of a minor, and abusive sexual contact of a minor. Castaway appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on November 27, 2012, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a mandatory minimum of 30 years up to life imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both. Restitution and a $100 special assessment may also be ordered. The charges are merely accusations, and Castaway is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges is prosecuting the case. Castaway was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. A trial date has not yet been set.
