A British teenager who was savagely stabbed 19 times while on holiday in Turkey, was yesterday released from hospital.
Dwayne
Ward, 17, was attacked with a pen-knife and slashed with a razor after a
night out in the popular tourist resort of Marmaris. He was then
stripped naked and left for dead.
But
just one week later, and the teenager, from Middlesborough, has made a
marked recovery and has left the Marmaris state hospital alongside his
father Wayne, 52.

Turkish surgeon Dr Selim Mavili, who carried out emergency life-saving surgery on Dwayne said the teen was 'lucky to be alive'.
Dr Mavili told reporters: 'Dwayne was bought in with multiple stab wounds - three of which were life-threatening.
'One punctured his lung, one pierced
his heart and the third damaged a major artery in his neck. He was very
lucky to be alive - if he'd been left much longer he definitely would
have bled to death.'
Dr Mavili revealed that Dwayne had suffered a total of 19 stab wounds and razor cuts.
He
said: 'When Dwayne arrived at the hospital he had no idea where he was
or what had happened to him. He kept asking where the wounds had come
from and if he was going to die.
The naked body of Dwayne was discovered by
horrified local residents in this public garden in Marmaris - he'd been
stripped and stabbed up to 19 times
'We managed to stabilise him and keep
him calm but didn't reveal any details of his ordeal until his family
and the psychiatric team arrived.
'Fortunately
Dwayne's a fighter and he received the best possible care in the nick
of time and I'm delighted with the excellent physical recovery he's
made,' added Dr Mavili.
'He's certainly very lucky to be alive.'
Dwayne's father Wayne, collected his son from hospital and told reporters: 'We're just glad to have him home.
'It's
been a dreadful week but now we're hoping to have a few days to enjoy
the sunshine and give Dwayne some happier memories to take home.
'We've
been to Marmaris three times before and loved it - you can't blame
Turkey or the local people for the actions of those two sick
individuals,' he added.
Dwayne was attacked in the early hours of last Tuesday morning as he stumbled home from a drunken night out in Bar Street.
The
teen was allegedly ambushed. His attackers are said to have robbed,
stripped, stabbed and slashed him and dumped his body in a local garden.
Two
men Attila Dincer, 26, and another named only as Ismail A, 24, were
arrested within 48 hours of the attack. They are now on remand facing
charges including robbery, wounding with intent and attempted murder.
