Nasarawa killings: Police arrest Ombatse notorious member

A notorious member of the outlawed Ombatse militia group, who was alleged to have played a vital role in the killings of over 90 security operatives at Alakyio village in Lafia East Development Area of Nasarawa State on May 7, has been arrested by the state police command.
The 30-year-old man, name withheld, who was said to have been arrested on Monday evening through a tip-off at Bukan-Sidi area in Lafia, the state capital, while trying to deal with one of the inhabitants of the area who was said to have owed his wife a substantial amount of money, would be moved to the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, tomorrow for further interrogation and investigation into his alleged roles in the gruesome killings.
Investigation by the Nigerian Tribune revealed that the suspect had confessed to committing the crime, and told the police that he killed many mobile police officers during the attack. Informed top police source also confided in the Nigerian Tribune that the suspect confessed that all the rifles used during the operation were given by the chief priest of the group, Baba Alakyio, and they had since returned them to the same immediately after the operation.
According to the impeccable source, “he is a confirmed notorious member of the Ombatse group and he has even confessed that  he killed many of our officers during the operation and all the rifles and ammunition seized were still with the spiritual leader, which all of you know as Baba-Alakyio. This is Abuja’s case, so maybe you have to travel to Abuja to get more details, because he may be transferred to the Force Headquarters latest by Thursday for further investigation.”
Efforts to get the reaction of the state Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPPRO), ASP Cornelius Ocholi, were not successful.
