Robbers kill hotelier, injure five


Robbers, numbering over 20, apparently on a reprisal, attacked and killed a hotel owner today(Sunday) at the Ajah area of Lagos State. The gun men were also alleged to have injured about five others who were occupants of the hotel.
The robbers, who were said to be many, attacked the hotel, located at a remote area, at about 3am and killed the owner of the hotel.
They were also said to have angrily set some cars ablaze, while they injured some people found in the hotel.
It was also gathered that the robbers were on a reprisal attack on the hotel owner, whom they believed gave information to Anti-Robbery Men, leading to the subsequent arrest of the leader of their gang.
The fuming robbers, had also searched everywhere for petrol to set the hotel on fire, but could not find any.
While some sources claimed that five people were killed, others insisted that five were injured and were rushed to hospital.
Police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, who confirmed the incident, insisted that she was still gathering facts about the matter.
She however confirmed that the owner of the hotel was killed, but was not yet aware of any other casualties aside from a slain robber during a gun duel with policemen.
She added: “The Area Commander received a distress call and quickly swung into action. He and a team of policemen raced down to the scene. The robbers saw them coming and opened fire, while attempting to escape. The police chased the robbers and there were exchanged of gun fire. One of the robbers was killed and an AK47 rifles recovered from him.
“It was after the policemen reached entered the hotel that they discovered that the owner of the hotel had been killed.  People in the hotel told policemen that the robbers shot and killed the hotel owner because they believed he was the person who gave information to SARS men which led to the arrest of their leader. They were on a revenge mission.”
