Easter Monday
started as a merry-making day for a man identified as Lawrence, his
wife, Lydia and two daughters, Lorena and Lauretta.
But the day ended tragically for the family. The family was travelling from Jalingo, Taraba State capital, to Benin in Edo State to attend a relation’s wedding.
But between Jalingo and Wukari, a band of villagers flagged their car down. Lydia said she thought they needed help. According to her, she reached out to the back seat of the car, thinking they needed water and she had some to spare.
Instead of her kind gesture, the villagers dragged them from the vehicle. Right there before her and the children, the villagers hacked her husband to death. They also burnt Lawrence’s body with the car.
Lydia and the children were herded into a village. “Use your phone. Tell your people you are in a house in Bantaje,” they told her. Terrified, Lydia did just that. But a team of policemen yesterday afternoon raided Bantaje and rescued Lydia and her two daughters.
They were taken to Mutum Biyu hospital where they were being treated for trauma. Sources said they would be taken to Jalingo before being taken to relations in Adamawa State.
