Two in custody for stealing three-month-old baby

Two in custody for stealing three-month-old baby
Two persons have been arrested in connection with the stealing of a three-month-old baby in Makurdi, the Benue State capital. One Amos Ibeenegh, who works with the state Social Welfare Office, was arrested with his alleged girlfriend, identified as Chinyere Okeke.
The suspects were said to have conspired to steal Terhide Agbeha while his mother was out.
Ibeenegh is said to be a neighbour to the baby’s parents, Mr and Mrs Vande Agbeha, at Inikpi Street, Makurdi.
According to investigation, Okeke, who is from Enugu State, was in Makurdi to adopt a baby, but was turned down by the Social Welfare Office. During one of her visits to the Social Welfare Office, Ibeenegh met her and offered her accommodation, after they had become friends. From there, the two, according to the residents of the area, became lovers. The baby’s mother, Mrs Msendoo Agbeha, told our correspondent that Terhide was stolen on April 19.
She said: “It was around 8pm on Saturday that Chichi (Chinyere), the girlfriend of my neighbour, Mr Amos Ibeenegh, came to my house, deceived my nanny and stole my baby. “I dashed out of the house to buy food items and my nanny was with the baby. But the baby was crying so Chichi came and took the baby for the purpose of making her to stop crying.
Chichi sent my nanny to get water for her to drink. It was during the process that Chichi ran away with my baby.” The woman added that efforts to contact Okeke through the telephone number she collected from Ibeenegh failed as she refused to answer the calls. The acting state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Mathew Oku, confirmed the incident.
