Robbers found officer sleeping on duty, pound him

A police corporal was found in a pool of his own blood after three robbers attacked him while he was sleeping at his security duty post, beating him black and blue at the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The corporal, Olagundoye Ayodele, attached to Mopol 2, Keffi, Ikoyi, Lagos, was discovered by the robbers sound asleep, with his rifle under his pillow and his partner’s rifle, a constable, in the security room.
The robbers pounced on him; beating him almost he lost consciousness. The robbers now proceeded into the building premises, tying up private security guards found in the compound.
The robbers made with the two AK47 rifles, each loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition.
The owner of the building which the Mopol policemen were guarding is a renowned lawyer, simply identified as barrister Owoduni.
It was the Barrister who rushed his wife and the corporal to hospital after the robbers left.
The Lagos State Police Authourity has ordered Ayodele’s arrest, while a warrant for the arrest of his partner, the constable has been issue.
It was gathered that the constable left his duty post to attend a promotional course examination.
It was also heard that the Barrister actually took four Mopol policemen to be guarding his home, paying them well, with well-furnished sleeping quarters. But the policemen, for reasons best known to them, decided to draw up a schedule. Once two work 24 hours, the other two would take off, to resume after the other two takes off.
On the fateful day of the attack, Ayodele was supposed to be on duty with the constable, but the constable had already taken permission from him that he was going to attend his promotional course.
Ayodele, who had been arrested, reportedly said: “I was alert until 2am. I went into security guard house to rest, but I fell asleep. I had not even shut my eyes for more than 5 minutes when three men, armed with guns burst into the room and held me at gunpoint. My rifle was under my pillow. They took it and that of the constable.”
The robbers beat him, inflicting injury on his mouth and almost blinded his right eye.
One of them later held him at gunpoint, while other two proceeded into the compound of the building.
It was exactly at about 3am that gunmen charged into the bedroom of the lawyer.
The lawyer and wife were held at gunpoint, while their home was ransacked. The bandits were said to have made away with valuables in the couple home.
Before the robbers sailed out of the house, they attacked the couple, beating his wife to a state of coma.
A police source said: “The lawyer said he didn’t hear any gun shot from outside and didn’t know robbers had attacked his security men. It was when they entered his room that he knew his home was under attack.”
After the robbers left, Barrister Owoduni first angry thought was where the heck were the four mopol policemen that were supposed to be guarding his home.
His anger fizzled out when he found Ayodele, barely moving in a pool of blood. He also discovered his two private security guards tied.
Owoduni quickly rushed Ayodele and his wife to be hospital. He was scared that the robbers had taken the constable and gone somewhere to kill him. It was not until Ayodele regained consciousness that he got to know that the constable was not even on duty.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, in charge of Operations, (DCP ‘A’), Mr. Tunde Shobulo ordered that Ayodele should be detained, stressing that he suspected foul play.
He also ordered that constable should be hunted and arrested, saying he had no right to keep his rifle while he was on course. Investigation into the matter continues.
