The Lagos State Police Command
have arrested nine suspected fake soldiers.
The suspects were mostly
members of Man 'O' War in army uniforms.
Their names were given as Israel Godwin,
Joseph Jidai, John Musa, Peter Azubuike, Stephen Obi, Paul Oha, Sulaiman
Rahman, Hammed Gadamosi and Abiola Oguntamu.
Musa, 30, said he is a
member of Man 'O' War. He said he obtained the complete camouflage
uniform from a Nigerian soldier who just traveled to the North.
According to him, he
uses the uniform for business of escorting mini-buses from Mile2, to Oshodi and
usually collects N3, 500 at the end of the day from every driver he assisted.
He confessed to have
been doing the business over a year now.
Stating his own story, Jidai
said a soldier sold the camouflage uniform for him at the rate of N9,000. But
he had succeeded in paying only N 3,000.
He added: “I wear the
uniform and escort mini-buses. The uniform is to make sure policemen, LASTMA
and 'agberos' do not collect money
from the driver.”
He said the drivers
usually pay him N1, 500 every day for the service he rendered.
Gbadamosi said he was
attached to Amuwo Odofin Local government as member of Man 'O' War. He said he
was arrested at Alakija area by policemen attached to Area 'E' Festac Command. He
revealed that the Area E Commander, ACP. Dan Okoro, led a team of policemen to
effect the arrest of the suspects.
It was gathered that
some politicians usually use some of them to perpetrate heinous crime in Lagos.
The State Commissioner
of Police, Mr. Umar Manko said he was not happy with the way some fake
and dismissed officers of security agencies used the uniforms to perpetrate crimes.
He wanted such people to desist from the act
or face the wrath of the law.
Manko added that raids
on impersonators would not stop.
