The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 1, Alhaji Tambari Yabo Mohammed, has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to expand its campaign on anti corruption from youths to public office holders.
He made this remark at the inauguration of the EFCC Integrity Club at the Police Girls Secondary School, Shanono, Kano State.
According to him, Corruption “ is a monster that has eaten all sectors and segments of the society and in order to tackle it, we have to take this message not only to the kindergarten level but also at the adulthood stage”.
He added, “in as much as we want the children to hate and shun corruption, the adult should also drop the idea and the time to do that is now”.
Speaking on low level corruption in the Nigerian Police, a situation which was demonstrated in the drama staged by the students, the AIG said that if all the necessary tools needed for operation are made available, there won’t be any need for the patrol officer to collect bribe on the high way.
The AIG also admonished Nigerians to join hands with the EFCC as he said that the fight against corruption is not only an EFCC’s affair. “All stakeholders, the Federal, State and Local governments and the general public must come together and look for a way out so that Nigeria as nation will move ahead and hopefully become a corrupt free nation”, he added.
The Deputy Director, Public Affairs, EFCC, Mr. Osita Nwajah, who represented the Executive Chairman, said the ongoing sensitization is part of the Commission’s expansion of its scope apart from investigation and prosecution.
The Head, Enlightenment and Reorientation, EFCC, Hajiya Aisha Larai Musa, in her presentation, urged the children to be contended with whatever is available for them and shun influence and company of bad friends.
