The recent arrest of three suspects by detectives attached to the
Lagos State Police Command has revealed how some criminals, pretending
to be officials of Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA), used
to tow and steal vehicles parked along roads.
Detectives uncovered how
some men, under the cover of darkness, would tow vehicles parked along
the road, with people thinking they were LASTMA officials. LASTMA is the
agency empowered to impound vehicles parked by road sides.
Parking of vehicles along roads is viewed as illegal by the state
government. One of those trading in such illegal business is Rasaki
Rasheed Adisa, 32. He was arrested after he towed a commercial bus
parked along the road, dismantled it and sold the parts to spare part
dealers at Jankara, Ojokoro-Ijaiye, Lagos State.
Adisa, who said he towed the yellow Volkswagen minibus, popularly
called Danfo, from where it was parked, said he was ready to replace it
if he was pardoned and released. He confessed to have moved the bus from
where it was parked about 9:00 pm on September 26. Adisa was arrested
along with Monsuru Rahmon, 27, and Okafor Celestine, 33.https://newtelegraphonline.com/fake-lastma-officials-tow-vehicles-sell-parts/
