Traffic violation: Corporal follows suspect to ATM, strips to evade arrest

A police corporal has been arrested after he followed a suspect, who flouted traffic rule to nearest ATM gallery to collect N30, 000 bribe.

The corporal, Ogogor, attached to the Area C Police Command, Surulere, Lagos State Police Command, didn’t know that while the suspect, a lady, looked agreeable to his demand, she had already called a Human Right Activist. The activist immediately alerted the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, who instructed policemen to rush to the bank and arrest Ogogor.
When policemen arrived, Ogogor refused to be arrested and began to strip of his uniform and trousers until he was only in his brief.
A police source said: “The corporal arrested the woman over allegation that she flouted traffic light. He told her that if the matter gets to the station, the woman would have to pay N50, 000 fine; but if she pays N30, 000, he would immediately release her impounded vehicle. The woman went to the UBA bank to withdraw the money, but quietly called a human rights activist.”
When policemen from police headquarters dashed to the scene, Ogogor was caught right in the act.
The source further said: “The corporal became violent and resisted arrest. He ran under a parked vehicle, but was forced out. In the process, he started tearing his uniform. He stripped to his pant to avoid being arrested. He was finally arrested with the help of street urchins and dragged him into a police van.”
Ogogor is presently being detained at the command’s headquarters, waiting for orderly room trial.
