Two arrested for killing 20 rival cultists

Detectives attached to the Zonal Intervention Squad, Zone 2 Command, Onikan Lagos State, have arrested two suspected cultists, who allegedly killed 20 members of rival groups in Otta and Ifo areas of Ogun State.

Police have described the two suspects, Sheriff Afeeri and Owoseni Wasiu as serial cultists’ killers.

The suspects were said to been arrested by the policemen on September, 30, 2016, in their hide outs, while they were planning to carry out another attack on rival group at Agosi community, also in Ifo area of the Ogun State.

The Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, (ZPPR), SP Muyiwa Adejobi, said that the presence of the cultists in the community caused panic among the residents of the area, before the quick intervention of the police.

The suspects, who allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation, said they have killed many rival gang members, including one Niyi, the former leader of Aiye confraternity in a bid to overthrow him.

Adejobi said:  “The late Niyi was hacked to death by the suspects and others at large, at Western City Street. While a dangerous weapon such as axe, which represents the logo of their cult group was recovered from them.”

Adejobi further said: “The Assistant-Inspector General of Police (AIG), Abdulmajid Ali has ordered that proper investigation into the case be carried out. He also said that members of the group linked to death of the rival groups should be arrested.”

 Also, operatives of Anti-Kidnapping Unit of Zone 2 have arrested a driver, Ibrahim Musa and his accomplice, Mohammed Jazuli, for diverting and stealing a 2 by 20 feet container of High Density Polythene products on August 23, 2016.

The owner of the stolen products, Managing Director of I.G Acoman Limited, was said to have submitted a petition to the office of Ali in connection with the diversion.

The truck carrying the diverted goods is marked IPXU 3851370 and FCIU 2589517.

The matter was referred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Zone to track down the said truck driver and his accomplices.

The police detectives, who swung into action immediately, arrested the driver and his accomplice in Katsina State. The suspects have allegedly confessed to the crime and revealed the identities of the receivers of the stolen items that were sold at Mile 2, Lagos, while the said Fiat truck marked LAGOS BDG 672 XK and container used for the criminal act were abandoned and recovered at Mowe, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Adejobi said: “The principal offender, Tunde Omowunmi, who is a notorious criminal that conspired with the driver, Ibrahim Musa and the receivers namely Fatima Abdulkareem, Iyabo Azeez and Iyabo Olaiya have been arrested and charged to court on October 5, 2016 in Lagos. The AIG has again assured the general public of his commitment to tackle violent crimes and social vices within the zone.”
