She used charms, knocked my car engines-Husband

A 60-year-old man, Mr Adejumo Atanda, has prayed the Ifako Ijaiye customary court, to dissolve his marriage to his 48-year-old wife, Mrs Adejumo Ololade Kemi.

Atanda filed for divorce on the basis of threat of life, no love and destruction of property. He said that he and his wife no longer love each other.

He told the court that his wife and daughter once tried forced themselves into his apartment, in an attempt to hurt him, but failed to gain access.

He further said: “When my wife couldn’t get at me, she went and poured powdery substance into my car. I have changed car engines several times and each keeps knocking.”

Kemi, who had earlier told the court that she wanted to remain in the marriage, said she wasn’t interested anymore. The woman blamed the problem between her and Adejumo on her brother-in-law.

She insisted that she didn’t want her daughter to be in touch with her husband's kin-men. She’s also said she was ready to apologise to her husband because he was the person that offended her, not the other way round. One of the ways he offended her was his constant beating and occasionally throwing her belongings out of their matrimonial home.

The man told the court that there was a time robbers came to their home and he was forced to jump out of the window. He injured his legs and was hospitalized for six months.

After he was discharged, he wasn't feeling safe in the house anymore and so he sent his wife to rent an apartment for them elsewhere.

According to him, it was a mutual agreement between them. He noted that he moved, but his wife refused to move. The woman denied his allegation, insisting that she didn’t leave with him because he didn’t tell her when the movers would be coming. He also claimed that his wife turned his children against him.

The man, who also accused his wife of stealing, disclosed that he reported her to the police. The wife, countering this new allegation, said that items she took were hers.

The court president, Mrs Elabor Adewulola, adjourned to August 1, for judgment.
