Police smash gang of kidnappers, armed robbers, cattle rustlers



Operatives attached to the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT), have arrested gang of suspected criminals, allegedly terrorizing, Abuja and Kaduna highways.

The suspects are Ibrahim Gurgu 45, Abdulazeez Idris 40, Shuaibu Ibrahim aka Kadi 29, Ibrahim Isiyaku 30, Usman Datti 30, Kabiru Musa 27 and Haruna Umar 24.
Items recovered from the suspects are Ak47 rifle, two locally made pistol, 30 rounds of live ammunition, one magazine, two military camouflage, three cutlasses and charms.
Speaking on the arrest of the suspects by IRT operatives, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police,  Force Spokesman, Jimoh Moshood said: “ It would be recalled that concerned with cases of kidnappings, armed robberies and other violent crimes on Abuja-Kaduna  road, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim K. Idris, early June, made additional deployment of 600 police personnel of Special Intervention Forces, comprising Intelligent Response Team (IRT), Special Tactical Squad (STS), Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Anti-Kidnapping Units, the Police Mobile Force (PMF) and the Counter Terrorism Units to root out these vicious and notorious kidnap for ransom and armed robbery gangs that were responsible for many kidnappings and armed robberies along Abuja-Kaduna Highway. They are also responsible for other violent crimes in the FCT, Niger and Kaduna states.”
The image maker explained that in order to curtail kidnapping and other violent crime, teams of policemen arrested eight principal suspects.
He noted: “Preliminary investigations revealed that they were responsible for several kidnappings, armed robberies and cattle rustlings on Abuja/Kaduna highways. All the suspects confessed to the offence and investigation is being concluded into the various crimes. In furtherance of these operations, the Police Special Forces led by the Intelligence Response Team on July 8, 2017 and July 9, 2017, working on available intelligence swooped on kidnappers’ dens in Gwagwada, Kangimi and Katari villages in Kaduna State, and arrested all the above mentioned suspects. The policemen also recovered weapons from them. They have made confessional statements, admitting to the various roles they played in the kidnapped for ransom of motorists, travellers and others innocent people along Abuja/Kaduna Highway.”
