•Victims will be releases this week, say police
Distraught parents of
the six students of the Lagos State Model College, Igbonla, Epe, who were
abducted 60 days ago, yesterday disclosed that they took loans which they
contributed to raise the ransom demanded by the kidnappers.
This was even as a
senior police officer disclosed that the children would be released this week.
The police source also confirmed
that the kidnappers, led by General America, had relocated the students from
Lagos creek to another creek in Delta State.
A parent, who spoke
with our correspondent, said he was hoping on God to free the children.
He said: “We have done
everything the kidnappers asked us to do; yet they have refused to release our
children. Presently, we’re hoping on God to intervene and set them free from
the captivity of their abductors. Some of us took loans to pay to settle the
kidnappers so that they would release our children. We have all resigned to
fate and are now praying for the safety of our children. We are appealing to
the security agencies to rescue our children and reunite them with us.”
The police source said:
“We are working assiduously with our counterparts in Delta State to free the
students and reunite them with their parents. The kidnappers moved the students
to another camp in Delta State to avoid arrest by police detectives attached to
Lagos State Police Command after they might have freed the students.
“We are going to do
everything to make sure that they are freed and the kidnappers arrested. We
have assured the parents and member of the general public in every forum that
the students would be released. We also feel what the parents are going
through.
“After the release of
the students, astonishing revelations about the kidnappers and their loved ones
would be made know to the public. Lagos State Police Command has recorded a lot
of successes in the fight against kidnapping and kidnappers.”
Two months after the
six students were abducted from their school hostel, they are yet to be
released by abductors, alleged to have collected over N31 million.
The students are Faruq,
Ramon Isiaka, Pelumi Philips, Peter Jonas, Adebanjo George and Judah Agbaosi.
