Gunshot wound gives four suspected criminals away

Detectives attached to the Zonal Intervention Squad (ZIS), Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos State, have arrested four men in connection with cultism, robbery and attempted murder.

According to the Zone 2, Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO), Dolapo Badmus, the suspects were arrested after the police received tip-off that a man was receiving treatment for gunshot wound at local bone setter's house.

The suspect, who had the gunshot wound, has been identified as Biodun Rabiu.
Rabiu confessed to be an armed robber, who had once been prison, but later released in 2016.

After his arrest at the bone setter’s house, Rabiu fingered Dauda Ayoade, Olaoye Popoola, Segun Ariyike, and Azeez as members of his robbery gang.  Azeez, however, is still at large.

According to Rabiu, he met one of the suspects, Ariyike at a club. He would later beg Ariyike to allow him ride with him on his motorbike.
He said that it was from there that they both proceeded to hijack a motorcycle. He noted that they used the motorbike last year to carry out an operation. He also confessed to have received a gun for operation from one Enny, who is also at large.

Ariyike, in his own confession, admitted to robbery, adding that he was also a cult member.

According to him, he met Azeez during one of their cult meetings and they both decided to recruit more people, to form a robbery gang. This plan led to the recruitment of four others.

Badmus said: “The suspects have so far carried out four robbery operations. The last was at Abule-Ilu Meji, which saw them shooting at one of their victims. Their attack was repelled by a local vigilante group. A member of the vigilante group shot one of the suspects, while they were trying to escape. The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), in charge of Zone 2, Adamu Ibrahim, has since directed that the suspects, who were in possession of cut to size locally made pistol, be charged to court, while effort is still on, to catch other fleeing suspects.”
