Soldiers kill Akwa Ibom most wanted criminals

Troops of 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army yesterday killed the leader and members of a notorious killer squad terrorising Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo local government areas of Akwa Ibom State.
Assistant Director, Public Relations, 2 Brigade, Uyo, Major Umar Shuaib, told journalists that the gang leader, Akaninyene Uko alias Isoakpaefid, and his members were killed when troops invaded the hideout of the gang at Ikpe village in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area and engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle.

‘Lunatic’ robs with toy gun, POS

Detectives attached to Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robber, who disguised as a lunatic to rob people.
It was learnt that the 27-year-old man, Olayinka Ogundimu, was arrested at Anifowoshe Street at Ikeja.
The residents of Anifowoshe Street were said to have informed the divisional police officer in charge of Man Centre, who led his men to the scene and arrested the suspect.

Anxiety as police, army discover bombs in Edo


Tension heightened in parts of Benin, Edo State yesterday as operatives of Anti- Bomb Squad of the state police command in collaboration with soldiers detonated three bombs found in an abandoned building in the ancient city.
This came barely three weeks after youths and vigilante group at Okpella community in Etsako East Local Government Area in the North Senatorial District uncovered a bomb factory following an explosion which killed one person.

Four suspected drug peddlers arrested in Adamawa

Officials of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested four suspected drug peddlers Adamawa State with 708.2 kilograms of assorted illicit substances.
The drugs included 25.6kg of cannabis skunk compressed in 24 pallets. The state NDLEA Commander, Yakubu Kibo, disclosed this while briefing journalists in his office in Yola yesterday.

Panic as lawyer slumps, dies in courtroom


A prominent lawyer in Anambra State, Mr. Solomon Uzoigwe (41), has slumped and died on Friday in a courtroom. Uzoigwe died while handling a land dispute case. The case was against a widow in Umuchu town, a community in Aguata Local Government Area.
His collapse caused pandemonium in the courtroom as lawyers, who were present in court, ran out, leaving Uzoigwe on the floor.

Nasarawa: Herdsmen kill seven in midnight raid

Again, gunmen believed to be Fulani herdsmen yesterday raided Kadarko community in Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and killed at least seven people. Witnesses said that the herdsmen invaded the community about 1a.m. when residents were in bed and opened fire on them indiscriminately.

According to them, seven people were killed while others were injured. One of the survivors, Mr. Joe Kur, told our correspondent in an interview during a visit to the area that he was woken up by heavy gunshots about 1a.m. and had to scamper to safety. He said that the gunmen shot sporadically which forced him to scamper to safety.
