7 soldiers, 2 others die on Abuja/Lokoja Road •13 killed in auto crashes —FRSC



SEVEN soldiers and two other persons were confirmed dead in a multiple accidents involving three vehicles on the Abuja/Lokoja road, on Monday.
The incident, which took place at a village called Awawa on the Abaji/Lokoja end of the Abuja road, occurred when a Dangote truck, believed to be loaded with cement, veered off the road and rammed into the vehicle conveying the soldiers and another 18-seater Toyota Hiace commuter bus.
It was learnt that the truck, which was attempting to overtake another vehicle, had a head-on collision with the vehicle conveying the soldiers, while also ramming into the Toyota commuter bus.
Seven soldiers were said to have died on the spot.
The Chief of Staff, Army Public Relations, Colonel John Agim, who confirmed the death of the soldiers, said they were on their way to Benin, Edo State, after completing a training course at the Military School, Kontagora.
He stated that the Dangote bus rammed into the vehicle conveying the soldiers, leading to the death of seven soldiers instantly. 
Nigerian Tribune also gathered that a woman lost her life in another accident at Koton Karfii on the Lokoja-Abuja Road, while four others were said to have sustained injuries.
It was gathered that the victims of the accident were travelling in a Volkswagen Vento car with registration no AW 658 NEM, which crashed into a truck Marked XW 334 APP at Koton Karfi.
In another incident in Abuja, three vehicles, a truck, a Honda car and a Nissan car, were involved in a road crash on the Asokoro–Nyanya end of Abuja.
Eyewitnesses said there were no death, but one person said to have sustained injuries was later rushed to Asokoro Hospital, Abuja, for treatment.
In yet another incident, 10 persons, including five children, sustained injuries when a car had a tyre burst on Lafia–Akwanga road in Nasarawa State and rammed into other vehicles.
Meanwhile, THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said 13 persons were killed, while about 33 others were injured in road crashes on the nation’s highways, all before 4.00 p.m., on Monday.
The agency, in a statement, said “seven persons were killed, while nine others were injured in a crash on the Kontagora–Tagina, Expressway.
Also, the agency reported that three soldiers were killed, while seven others were injured in an auto crash on Abaji- Lokoja road, while two persons were killed and one injured in an auto crash at Omu-Oke in Ekiti State.
“A female and a child lost their lives, while a man was injured when a Toyota Previa with registration no. XB 392 LEM, had a crash with a motorcycle on Omuo-Oke bypass in Ekiti state,” the agency stated.
FRSC also said a woman was killed, while five other persons were injured at Koton Karfi on Lokoja-Abuja road on Monday.
“A Volkswagen Vento with registration no AW 658 NEM and a truck XW 334 APP crashed at Koton Karfi, leaving one woman and five others injured,” the agency said.
