ICPC summons Ogun Speaker over car contract scam

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC) has summoned the Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Suraj Adekunbi, over alleged inflation of contract for supply of official cars.
This was in connection with the purchase of 28 Toyota Avensis cars for members of the House of Assembly as official vehicles at the rate of N6 million each.
The Nigerian Compass learnt that the summon followed a petition written against the Speaker, which the anti-graft agency acted upon.
It was further gathered that Adekunbi is expected to appear before the commission on Monday in Abuja.
Sources said the Speaker is to appear before the agency's Head of Investigation alongside some principal officers of the Assembly.
The letters of invitation had already been received by the Speaker and others concerned.
According to a copy of the letter of invitation obtained by the media, the Speaker was being invited "For conferring unfair advantage and inflating the price of 28 Toyota Avensis cars bought for the Hon members as official cars to the inflated amount of N6 million per one Avensis."
When contacted by reporters, the ICPC Media Consultant, Mr. Folu Olamiti, confirmed the development.
