28 Suspected terrorists arrested as JTF raid hideouts in Kano



Operatives of the Joint Task Force (JTF) and the police yesterday in Kano arrested no fewer than 28 suspected terrorists in separate dawn raids at the hideout of suspected terrorists in the merchant city.
The raids, which covered several locations, like Yankaba, Rijayar Zaki and Kurna Asabe within the metropolis, followed series of attacks by suspected terrorists in the state.
It was learnt that the attack carried out by the suspected terrorists in Yankaba area last Thursday during which two teenage students, Chukwuemeka Ebuka, 16 and Daniel Nwachukwu, 17 were gunned down informed the raid, at the end of which 12 suspected militants of the Boko Haram sect were rounded up by JTF operatives, while six were picked up in the Kurna Asabe operation.
According to a JTF member, who pleaded anonymity, the 12 arrested Boko Haram suspects in Yankaba just arrived Kano from Yobe in Yobe state, adding that they acted on intelligence report.
It was also learnt that another team of security personnel, also acting on a tip-off raided a compound in the University town of Rijayar Zaki, where another group of 10 suspected Boko Haram members were also arrested.
Among items recovered from the suspects were military uniforms and other incriminating items.
As at the time of filing this report, all the suspects have been handed over to the military authorities.
Spokesman of the JTF, Lt Ikedichi Iweha, assured that the task force would not relent in their efforts to set the state free from the grip of the terrorists, adding that raids on suspected hideouts of the gunmen remain a routine exercise.
“Our plan is to choke up the state to suffocate them and that we are doing and getting the desired results.”
“You can see what they are doing now is to throw cans indiscriminately to sustain their terror, but I assure you we are on top of the situation.”
