An Ado-Ekiti
Customary Court on Monday dissolved the 20-year-old marriage between Mr
Tayo Joseph and his wife, Adeola, for consistent fighting and lack of
care for the husband.
Joseph, 40, had earlier told the court that he wanted a divorce because they always fought for the wife’s failure to cook for him.
He said the wife also failed to cook for the children even after providing money and foodstuff each time she requested for them.
The father of four further said that all efforts to correct his wife’s lack of commitment to the marriage failed as she had refused to change her behaviour.
He urged the court to award custody of the children to him since he had married another wife, who was ready to cook regularly for him and take good care of the children.
In her defence, Adeola, 37, told the court that the husband abandoned her and the children for years.
She said she was preparing his food and washing his clothes contrary to his claims, adding that efforts to reconcile with the husband failed.
She agreed that custody of the children be awarded to Joseph.
Dissolving the marriage, the court’s president, Mr Ogunsemi Joseph, said the marriage had broken down beyond reconciliation.
Ogunsemi granted custody of the children to Joseph, and directed that he be responsible for their upkeep and education.
He ordered that the wife be granted access to the children whenever she wanted to see them.
