Insecurity: Retired security personnel should be used

President Goodluck Jonathan has been urged to employ the services of retired security agents if he wishes to effectively tackle insecurity problems in the country.
A security analyst, Mr. Folorunsho Atta who made this assertion, said that the current insecurity of the lives of Nigerians and foreigners would have been a thing of the past, if the right calibre of security experts had been involved in national security issues.

Atta argues that past Inspectors-General  of Police like, Mr. Sunday Adewusi, Mr. Tafa Balogun, retired Commissioners of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav and Mr. Yakubu Adamu Alkali, amongst others, all whom he said served the force effectively and proactively during their tenure, still have what it takes to check insecurity, crime and criminality.
He added: “I think those in government should take more interest in men of goodwill, who, if given the opportunity to serve in any area that concerns security of lives and property, will not only excel but set a precedent for future leaders.”
Atta said Adewusi is the first Inspector-general of police to fortify and empowered the force logistically.
He said that building on achievements of Adewusi, another former IGP, Tafa Balogun made the force to be one of the best in Africa during his tenure.
“During the time of Balogun, insurgents who would have reared their ugly heads like Boko Haram were in the offing. However, with intelligence report reaching Balogun, the group was annihilated. This confirmed the proactive nature off Balogun programme of operation fire-for-fire,” recounted Atta.
The analyst said the honest and patriotic nature of Tsav and Alkali while they were in service, revealed that if they are consulted by the president, they would come up with a blueprint, which could proffer solution to the general insecurity of lives and property in the country.
“I believe that the present IGP, Mr. Suleiman Abba and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, (PSC), Dr. Mike Okiro should effectively make use of the services of these retired police chiefs.”
