Gunmen in military camouflage kidnap Jonathan’s cousins

Six gunmen in military camouflage on Tuesday abducted two cousins of President Goodluck Jonathan at the Akimpelai, Ogbia local government area of Bayelsa State.

The victims, Patience Egbeni and Kate Eni, were kidnapped by the unknown gunmen around 8pm. The bandits were said to have invaded the community and whisked the women away. It was gathered that the kidnapped women are two maternal cousins of Jonathan.

Eye witnesses said they were taken from their shops located in the community.

The eye witness said: “The gunmen dragged the frightened women into a speedboat. Nobody could do anything to stop them because they were armed. This kidnap has left the president worried.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Butswat Asinim, said the gunmen were dressed in military camouflage.
Asinim said: “The gunmen were dressed in military camouflage. They went to the provision stores of the victims at the riverside and abducted them into a waiting speedboat. The marine and Anti-kidnapping Squad of the Police, including the Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Pulo Shield, has been contacted.”
