The suspect, Emmanuel Enu, said his father, a retired master warrant officer with the Nigerian Navy forced him into crime after the man got married to three wives, had many kids whom he allegedly could not provide for.
Enu, who had been nursing the dream of becoming a professional footballer before being nabbed by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, Police Command, Lagos State, added that he and his gang used to carry out their operation, using motorbikes.

The suspect was arrested on December, 30, 2014, along Marina Oduduwa Road Apapa GRA by a police patrol team. He was arrested in possession of a locally made gun.

A police source said: “The gang used to carry out their operations using motorcycles. They use their weapons to snatch phones and their valuables from victims along the road and in commercial buses.”
Enu said: “My father is a retired naval officer.  I had a dream but my father made me to abandon it. He married three wives and ended up having nine kids. He couldn’t provide for any of us. He couldn’t give us three square meal, let alone educate us! If he is a responsible father, he would have given me support; I wouldn’t be desperately looking to raise money or had to use a gun.”
Enu said that after his secondary school education, he had taken to soccer to better his life. He felt luck shone on him after he got an opportunity to travel out to further his football career but needed N300, 000 to finance the travel.
He said that he was arrested exactly the first day he went on robbery operation.
According to him, the gun retrieved from him by the police was given to him by a naval officer. He went with one Onora to rob around Oto Whalf, but was arrested. His friend Onora, escaped.
