Edgal orders raids on uncompleted buildings, markets

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Edgal Imohimi, yesterday ordered his men to carry out raids on uncompleted buildings and markets in the state.

Edgal, who made this disclosure while speaking at a town’s hall meeting at Area 'A' Police Command, Lion Building, said that the raids would check criminals using uncompleted buildings and markets as hideouts.

Imohimi said that there had been reduction in highway crimes
, adding that neighbourhood crimes and cult related violence seem to persist, which he promised to eliminate.

His words: "We continue to have neighbourhood crimes and cult related violence, and for this reason, I have with immediate effect ordered Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to reach out to traditional rulers and other voluntary groups. We’ll set up vigilante group in Area A Police Command to reach out to inner streets in order to restore peace in communities. I have also ordered raids on uncompleted buildings and markets to ensure such places are not turned into havens for criminals."

The CP
further said: "I have told my area commanders and DPOs that policing will now be by patrolling. They must move to the neighbourhoods, attend their meetings and talk to the people. Policing in Lagos will now be with collaboration and consent of the the people."

Edgal said that he would not condole any form of corruption among policemen as he had started setting examples with an officer who was suspended recently over an alleged misconduct. He also commended the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode for approving the donation of 109 generators and flashlights for police stations in the state. According to him, the generators would make policemen effective.
