The
Emir of Lafia, Dr Isah Mustapha-Agwai 1, has appealed to Nigerians not to smear
or bring down those in positions of authority for personal interests, saying
only God could give and take power.
Mustapha-Agwai
made the appeal when the IGP Ibrahim Kpotun-Idris visited him in his palace on Friday.
It
would be recalled that the police boss was in Lafia to inaugurate the State
Police Command headquarters donated by Gov Tanko Al-makura.
The
Royal father noted that the two major religions preached against smearing one
another's image, reputations or saying things about somebody without any proof.
"We
should always remember the day of resurrection in our actions," he said.
The
emir who is also the Chairman, Nasarawa statehood Council of Chiefs expressed
dismay at the attitude of those who would always allow themselves to be used by
enemies of progress to ruin someone's reputation
The
monarch also commended the IGP Idris for putting in place measures that have led to
improved security and doused heightened tension in various parts of the country
in recent months.
According
to the Emir, “the country is faced with some formidable security challenges,
ranging from insurgency, militancy, kidnappings and armed robberies".
The
monarch, however, noted that with the diligence and commitment of the IGP, most
of these challenges had been surmounted, while efforts were on to protect lives
and properties of Nigeria.
Mustapha-Agwai
1, tasked the police boss not to be complacent, urging that he should do
everything humanly possible to ensure that the tempo is sustained.
I
enjoin you to continue with your good work of providing adequate security to Nigerians
and not to be distracted with the activities of ungodly people in our
mix",
God
Almighty gives and take power as such fear no one, discharge your duties
effectively and efficiently and God will always be with you", the Royal
father stated further.
The
Emir further said that IGP’s visit was a home coming and pledged to continue to
assist and cooperate with Nigeria Police Force to ensure the success of his
activities in fighting crime and criminality in the country.
He
said the IGP Idris's contribution in dousing the rate of crime in the state
during his days as CP is highly commendable, saying he had contributed
immensely in the peace unity the people of the state are now enjoying".
He
also called on him to accord top priority to the welfare and comfort of
officers and men across the country.
“Today
God Almighty has entrusted you in to this position as number one police boss,
don’t be selective in your dealings, fear no one except Allah, don’t use it to
victimize any body and you will continue to see God’s hand in everything you
do”, the royal father advised
“Try
to ensure that you are transparent, incorruptible and unbiased in discharging
your duties and responsibilities, Almighty Allah will not allow your enemies to
pull you down”.
Speaking
earlier, IGP Idris underscored the role of traditional institutions in
complementing the effort of security operatives in checkmating criminal
activities.
The
police boss said that the role of traditional institutions in sustaining peace
and unity in the country could not be over-emphasized and noted that the police
force will not relent in partnering the institution.
