A 23-year-old nurse, Folashade Idoko, was arraigned yesterday at the Ebute-Metta Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing her husband, Lawrence, 33, to death.
The accused, who lived in Aiyetoro,
Ijanikin, with her husband and two children, was said to have plunged a kitchen
knife into her husband’s leg after an argument ensued between them on August
20, 2017.
She had accused her partner,
Lawrence, 33, of infidelity leading to the argument.
The police officer in charge of the
case, Insp. Akpan Nseyo, told the court that he recovered the kitchen knife
with which the suspect stabbed her husband.
He said: “I also saw a towel soaked
with blood on the floor. There were bloodstains from the inner room to the
living room down to the entrance door”.
But Folashade, who was charged on a
count of murder, said that she didn’t intend to harm her husband. “It
mistakenly fell and injured my husband,” she told the court.
Also, the prosecutor, Sgt. W.
Hafsat, told the court that the suspect inflicted grievous harm on the deceased
in the past, but the latter overlooked it with the hope that she would change.
She added that the offence
contravened and punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State
of Nigeria, 2015.
However, the defendant’s plea was
not taken.
The presiding magistrate, K.A.
Ayeri, ordered that the accused be remanded in custody. The case was adjourned
till September 28, 2017.
