Police have arrested at least 33 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cattle rustlers terrorising parts of Niger State.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Austin Agbonlahor, disclosed this during
an interactive session with journalists at the Police Officers Mess in Minna.
Agbonlahor said with proactive measures, the command arrested 22 armed
robbery suspects, six cattle rustlers and five kidnappers.
He said: “This action was within four weeks. We have mapped out some
strategies to force them to relocate out of the state. It is total war on
criminals.
“We are after them. The command operatives on patrol will continue to
foil the plans of criminals in the state. Niger State is one of the most peaceful
states in Nigeria and we cannot allow them to take over the state; they better
rethink or face the wrath of law.”
The commissioner added that the command, during the period, recovered
seven stolen vehicles, two AK47 rifles, one locally-made pistol, 415 cows and
five live ammunition.
He added: “We are determined to fish out all the criminals in the state
and make the entire state safe for the residents to operate and go about their
normal businesses with no fear of contradiction.”
Agbonlahor called on the people to cooperate with the command by giving
useful information that would boost the battle against criminals.
He said: “We have intensified our 48 hours surveillance on all the black
spots. I have mandated the operatives, area commanders to go after the hoodlums
that make lives miserable for people and they are ready to face the
challenges.”
In his remarks, the Chairman of the state Council of Nigeria Union of
Journalists (NUJ), Mohammed Mohammed, assured Agbonlahor of synergy between
journalists and the state Police Command.
