Man attempts to kill American after visiting church

Detectives attached to the Zone 2 Police Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos State, have arrested Orabe Philips Leo, for attempting to kill an American visitor, Mr Robert Rob Wheelers.

The incident occurred on August 25, after Leo, who had visited a church, attempted to spellbind the American into parting with some money. Unfortunately, whatever he was told at the church didn’t appear to work.

He was further alleged to have got angry and attacked Wheelers, because the latter promised him some money, but didn’t fulfill it.

Wheelers, an American arrived Nigeria on August 25, 2017 and was picked up at the airport by the suspect who once worked with him at Tony Elumelu Foundation in 2015.

According to the Zone 2 spokesperson, Dolapo Badmus, Leo drove the victim to his house at Adeniyi Street Ikorodu, where he was to reside till his return back to US.

Badmus said: “The victim was attacked by Leo at midnight and was left in his pool of blood after which the suspect fled. The Zonal command received the distress call and operatives were dispatched. A manhunt was later launched for the suspect while the victim was rushed to the hospital.

“On September 8, upon intelligence gathering, Leo was arrested at his hideout within Ikorodu. The Leo was interrogated by the Assistant-Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Mr Ibrahim Adamu. During the interrogation, Leo confessed to have clubbed the victim's head with a pestle three times. He further confessed that the victim reneged on his promise to give him an unspecified amount of money; a promise the victim couldn't keep, which angered Leo.”

Leo, when he was further questioned, revealed that he had invested so much in his effort to get money from the white man since he consulted a white garment church where he was given a charm to use on the man, but was deeply angered when the victim didn't obey his instructions.

Badmus said: “Although investigations are ongoing, but the AIG has directed that no stone should be left unturned in further unraveling the case.”
