Queen Okonjo's kidnappers make contact, insist on speaking with Finance Minister

Kidnappers of the mother of the Minister of Finance, Queen Mother Kaneme Okonjo, have established contact with her family members, it was learnt yesterday.
Ten heavily armed men were said to have pounced on Queen Mother Kaneme Okonjo at the gate of her husband’s Palace in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State four days ago and whisked her to unknown destination.
Soldiers and other security agencies have since the following day been drafted to the locality to provide security and douse the rising tension in the community.
A palace chief who spoke on condition of anonymity told the Nigerian Compass yesterday that the hoodlums who left with the GSM handset of the victim’s maid, called with it yesterday, to the phone of the victim (which they left behind), but on hearing a strange voice insisted on speaking only with her Finance Minister daughter.
“When the hoodlums called, it was Onyema (the Minister’s brother) that picked it. But they insisted on speaking with Dr. Mrs. Ngozi”, the palace source revealed.
He lamented that the kidnappers failed to disclose their mission, not to talk of making their demands known.
On the health of the Obi Chukwuka Okonjo, the husband of the victim, who flew abroad for the Board of Trustees meeting of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) before his palace was raided, the source said, “up till now, the Obi and his daughter (the Minister) have not come to the village to see the situation of things.”
