Man’s commits suicide after victim of stolen van traced him

A man has hanged himself, rather than face the shame of going to prison. The man, known as Alhaji, killed himself after he discovered that the person’s whose van he stole in Lagos has traced him to Oyo State, where he resides with his wife and children.

The deceased called his wife via phone, begging her to make sure she takes care of their children. He had also promised to come home.

When his wife did not see him on the agreed date, she alerted family members.

A search party was organised and his corpse was later found, dangling from a tree in the area. Police were alerted and a suicide note was found on him. The note explained in detail why he took his life.

The alleged owner of the van, one Bashiru Olaoye, had been instructed by police to come with identification documents to take the van.
