3 armed robbers to die by hanging in Ekiti •As man, 57, rapes 3-yr-old girl

A High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, on Friday, sentenced three men to death by hanging.
The men who were sentenced to death for robbery were: Taiwo Hassan(39), Henry Okeke(30 and Oladimeji Olanrewaju(27) .
Delivering his judgement, Justice Olusegun Ogunyemi said the condemned robbers were guilty of the two-count charge leveled against them, thereby ordering that they should die by hanging.
“I have carefully considered the evidences before this court by the Department of Public Prosecution,(DPP),the prosecution and the defence counsels.
“I hereby find the accused persons guilty of the charges of conspiracy and armed robbery as charged and hereby convict them thereof,” the judge said.
While the trial lasted, the prosecuting counsel, Mr. Oluwaseun Fasote, a legal officer in the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), told the court that the convicts committed the offence on December 7, 2010, along Ado-Afoa Road, in the Ado-Ekiti judicial division of Ekiti State.
The charge sheet preferred against them read that : “Taiwo Hassan, Henry Okeke and Oladimeji Olanrewaju on December 7, 2010, along Ado-Afao Road, in the Ado judicial Division conspired to commit felony to wit: armed robbery.
“Taiwo Hassan, Henry Okeke and Olanrewaju on the same date, place and time while armed with gun, robbed one Mr. Lateef Saka of his cell-phone, the sum of N360.00 and a Toyota Hummer bus with registration No XQ 987 BDG.” The prosecutor contended that the offences committed contravened Sections: 6(B),1(2)(a) of the Robbery and Firearms(Special Provisions) Act Cap R11 Volume 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
Meanwhile, detectives of the Ekiti State Police Command, have arrested one David Oloruntoba, 57, for allegedly defiling his 5-year old step daughter.
In a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Victor Babayemi, the culprit’s neighbours overheard the suspect and the mother of the victim arguing and quarreling over the incident before it was reported to the police for necessary action.
He said the suspect will be charged to court soon. The PPRO added that operatives of the Command had arrested two armed robbery suspects who robbed and raped two ladies returning from a night vigil.
He gave the names of the suspects as: Olaseni Daramola (19) and Olumide Tunde (20). The suspects robbed the victims of two Blackberry and one nokia phones, handbags containing Holy Bibles and other valuables.
He said the ladies were returning from a vigil organised by a church at Falegan Area, Ado-Ekiti at about 4:00 am on the day when the hoodlums accosted them brandishing a locally made pistol and pretending to be members of local vigilante groups.
