A driver identified as Friday Igbinedion, who was in an unregistered
truck, met an untimely death on Friday after he was allegedly shot dead
by the police close to a checkpoint along Ore/Benin road.
The
incident was confirmed in a press release issued by the Police Public
Relations Officer in Ondo State Police Command, Mr Wole Ogodo.
The
PPRO said the information about the killing of the driver was received
about 1p.m., adding that the deceased, “was shot and killed close to a
police pin-down point along Ore/Benin road.”
Ogodo stated further
that the team made up of six policemen attached to the police patrol
vehicle along the route had been arrested and detained at the State
Criminal Investigation Department of the command.
He disclosed
that they were being interrogated, promising that the command would make
the outcome of the investigation known to the public.
Ogodo appealed to members of the public for calm, assuring them that “whoever is indicted will be brought to justice.”
