The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson,
Ngozi Braide, yesterday, revealed that three persons died and houses razed on
Saturday during a fire outbreak at the Ijora Badia area of Lagos State.
The fire
was said to have started at about 3am, while the residents were having a Sallah
party.
The victims
killed were asleep in their rooms when the fire started. They were said to have
tried to escape the inferno, by running to other rooms, but the fire was
everywhere.
The Seriki
of the area, Idris Bello, whose house was also gutted, said that it was
believed that a lighted candle fell on a plank, caught fire and spread.
The two
women who died in the fire were from the Republic of Benin, while the man is a
Nigerian, from Jigawa State. One of the women is a mother of four.
About 20 rooms were razed down and some
motorbikes too.
According to Braide, on August, 10, 2013, fire gutted about rooms at white sand area of Ijora Badia.
Three persons identified as Maryama
Kasimu, 79, Pahane Usman, 30, and one Adamu other name yet unknown were burnt
to death in the inferno.
The fire was put out by the
Policemen and fire Fighters who raced to the scene after receiving a distress
call.
“The cause of fire and value of
properties destroyed are yet to be ascertained. The case is under investigation
at Ijora Badia Division,” said Braide.
