Policeman shoots groom’s sister, disrupts NSCDC official’s wedding

A policeman caused pandemonium at the wedding of an official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osogbo, Osun State, at the weekend. The policeman (name withheld) attached to the state police command started shooting sporadically into the air because of a disagreement with an unidentified person at the wedding.
In the process, he shot one of the elder sisters of the groom who was rushed to an undisclosed private hospital in Osogbo. The development, which reportedly lasted for several minutes, forced many people to take to their heels. The residents of the area quickly locked themselves inside their houses.

The state NSCDC Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ayo Olowe, confirmed the incident. He said: “The policeman, after leaving the venue of the bachelor’s eve, went to the state headquarters of the NSCDC and harassed those he found in the premises.
“It was the father of the groom who was at the NSCDC headquarters that day and who incidentally is a commissioner of police that took the policeman away.” When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs Folasade Odoro, said she was yet to be briefed about the development.
