Some soldiers monitoring election at
Ajegunle area of Saturday arrested and severely punished five men for being in
possession of machete and moving about during movement restriction hours.
According to some voters who
witnessed the interaction, the soldiers who ordered the men to hold one another
on the shoulder and start embarking on frog jump, said the punishment was teach
them lesson on the danger of stoking violence. The soldiers also said that
others would learn a lesson or two from the five suspects.
An eyewitness, Jamiu Fakorede said: “The
soldiers saw six men walking, but only one of them had a cutlass. Immediately the
soldiers called them, one of the men bolted. As others made to run, the
soldiers ordered them to stop or they would shoot. The soldiers took the
cutlass from them.
"The soldiers told them to do
from jump. They flogged them with horse whip. They told them to hold each other
from behind and jump like a frog."
One of the soldiers said the five
men would be handed over to the police. He said it would serve as deterrent to
others who wanted to cause violence.
In another development, soldiers
monitoring at Mba Street, flogged a lady silly for wearing short to polling
unit for her accreditation. The lady was
said to have been through with her accreditation and was on her way home when
the soldier saw her at Mba. They said her dressing was disgraceful and irresponsible.
