At least 14 people have been killed by a strange illness at Ode-Irele
in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The victims, sources in
the town said, included three close friends, some members of the same
families and other residents of the town.
The people, who blamed the
strange illness on a particular deity, put the casualty figure at over
17, while the state government put it at 12.
The state Commissioner for
Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju, who gave the figure of 12 while speaking with
journalists yesterday in Akure, the state capital, said four other
persons were being given isolated treatment at the General Hospital in
the town.
