‘I held my baby to my stomach and doubled over to protect her’ - Boko Haram fighters stoned Nigerian girls to death as rescuers approached

Snatching some sleep: A baby born in captivity to one of the women rescued from Boko Haram in Sambisa forest sleeps at a clinic at the Internally Displaced People's camp in Yola

Ordeal: 20-year-old Salamatu Bulama escaped the militants but says a group of around 10 women were hiding under some bushes when they were run over and killed by an armored personnel carrier

A mother had to double over to protect her baby daughter as Boko Haram fighters stoned other Nigerian girls around her to death while rescuers approached.

Lami Musa, 27, cradled her 5-day-old baby girl as the militants carried out a brutal attack on captured women and girls who refused to march with them.
She was among 275 girls, women and their young children, many bewildered and traumatized, who were getting medical care and being registered a day after making it to safety.
Nigeria's military said it has freed nearly 700 Boko Haram captives in the past week. But others were not so lucky as some girls and women were crushed by an armored car and three died when a land mine exploded as they walked to freedom.
