The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of
six hundred and thirty two (632) senior Police Officers in line with its constitutional
mandate to promote persons to offices in the Nigeria Police Force.
Four hundred and sixty (460), Officers were promoted from the
rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police, (ASP) to the next rank of Deputy
Superintendent of Police, (DSP), while one hundred and seventy two(172) Officers
on the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police were elevated to the rank of
Superintendent of Police.
The Commission took the decision at its 11th
Plenary Meeting held in Abuja and presided over by its Chairman, Sir, (Dr) Mike
Mbama Okiro, retired Inspector General of Police.
The Officers were found to have satisfied the Commission’s
criteria for promotion which includes maturity on a rank, absence of Pending
Disciplinary Matter, merit and establishment budget vacancy availability.
Chairman of the Commission, Sir, (Dr.) Okiro enjoined the
Officers to see their promotion as a necessary impetus to redouble their
efforts in the service of the nation. He charged them to work within the rule
of law and with the fear of God.
The promotion of the Officers takes effect from March 12th,
2015.
