NAPTIP solicit for informants

Director General of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Dame Julie Okah-Donli has urged Nigerians to become informant and partner the agency to fight against   human trafficking and child molestation in the country.

Speaking with our correspondent in Lagos recently, Okah-Donli, said that the war against human trafficking and child molestation in Nigeria is not fight for the agency alone but
would more effective and won,   if people volunteer to give useful information when it is necessary.

She   urged Nigerians to report any incident of human trafficking around them, by so doing; they are helping the nation to fight   war against trafficking which a monster is eating up the young people.

She said:” NAPTIP will protect anybody who gives us information about victim of   human trafficking around them and some will be rewarded, but it is a moral values thing to do, for us to see evil and report evil. Wrong doing against our follow human being is evil and if we go to churches and mosques, if you think, it is not your business or the victim is not your relation, so you don’t care of your fellow human suffering, who knows tomorrow, it may be your turn or someone close to you.

The NAPTIP boss also advised parents to avoid leaving the drivers alone with their children but make sure that opposite sex is accompanying them to schools because of what they are hearing how they are been sexually abused by the people who are supposed to protect them.

On the meeting with micro influencers, she said it was a kind of awareness strategy  because the internet is the main thing now  and all these influencers has a lot to do as they are always on the net doing one thing or other.

“The idea is to bring all the micro influencers together, so that awareness campaign against human trafficking in their different platforms and blogs will spread the news in the country. The ills and consequence of human trafficking in society. And don’t forget that it is the same the social media platform the traffickers used to lure their victims and it will be used to counter them. So, it works both ways and  I think there will be more positive outcomes than their negative. And way forward is we are also engaging other law enforcement agencies to help us trace these online traffickers' agencies. So, we will investigate them deeper and get hold of them.

“ We will station boxes in the schools, so that anybody who have information , he or she  don’t want to share with people, can drop in the place with a detail information, that can lead to the arrest of trafficker and as well as to rescue victim of human trafficking around us in the society," she said.

She revealed that Federal Government is to set up  special courts and designated judges for human trafficking before the end of the year.
